Metal detecting is fun!!

The information given here is for those just staring out. It is a great fun and an even better part time hobby, especially for retired people or those who take vacations. When buying a detector, look for the type and price that will suit you. If you are just starting out, simple land detectors (also known as a relic detector) are a good choice and often the most affordable. They will usually start at around $250. If you do want to jump right in with both feet, you can spend thousands. You can easily travel with your detector with the hopes of making unusual and fun discoveries! Basic detectors are great if you are at a park, in the woods or on the beach. While most coils in these type of detectors are water resistant, be careful not to let it drop in the water! When starting out, slowly and succinctly comb over small areas at time. Keep the coils close to the ground. You may find trash or treasure, but it will be fun because you will always find something! One of my favorite places to go metal detecting is on the beach at the end of the day. A lot of people will have visited the beach that day and who knows what they have left behind! Be systematic and patient. Take your time as you comb over each area! Coins are usually the easiest to find, but don’t be surprised by the junk metal that may show up as well. Also, detecting has become a popular hobby, so also don’t be surprised if you don’t find much. Or try to find some remote areas of a park or beach. Do not buy a detector in the hopes of striking it rich – buy it for fun and amusement and you never know - riches may follow!
