Metal detecting is such a great hobby for all the family but it's so important to buy the right metal detector. Here are a few of my opinions and thoughts about buying a metal detector. Weight is a key issue - you really want to make sure you buy a nice light-weight model. If you're keen to go metal detecting down at the beach then you really want a model which will hold up under sand and surf assault. Some of the older models don't handle the beach real well and I've had some of my best finds on beach vacations - gold rings, an old watch and many coins. It can be really useful to have a detector which had a variety of different tones so that's definitely something to look out for when you're making your selection. The most important thing of all though is that you remember to have fun. You can get the whole family involved - whatever their age - and it's great wholesome entertainment for everyone.
